UNFOLDING THE SECRETS BY FOLDING
"Fold - to lay one part over another part "
Laser cutting technology is applied to create precise steel plate mould.
Origami technique, an ancient method to change a sheet of paper from 2d into 3d object by folding without gluing or screwing involved, is applied to fold steel plates into geometric shapes despite the hardness and thickness of steel.
Without welding, each hand-folded part is inserted into main body with interlocking assembly. Delicate skill is required for accomplishing traditional mortise-tenon structure.
On contrary to the monotonous appearance of steel, aluminium plate retrieved from soda can will bring colours to life and inherit upcycle concept of classic Canbot art.
Through the process of hand-folding and assembling, distress intensity level of the figures will vary. The shapes and postures will be slightly different that present the individuality of each robot figure. The ideology behind this practice is to show everyone of us was created in the same way but behaviours will define uniqueness.
All Canbot and related art pieces are built from triangular prism core that is considered as solid and sturdy foundation and also resembling a triangular recycle symbol.
